Emotional Regulation in Yourself and Others in the Workplace

US$30.00Price

Understand your emotions. Manage your responses. Communicate better when emotions run high.

Emotions are part of every workplace. Stress, frustration, anger, fear, uncertainty and disappointment can influence how we think, communicate, make decisions and respond to the people around us.

This practical and interactive workshop helps participants understand why we respond emotionally, recognise their own emotional patterns and develop practical strategies to manage difficult emotional moments more effectively.

Participants explore the influence of genes, environment and experience on emotional responses and learn how to recognise the physical signs that can occur when emotions begin to escalate.

Rather than trying to eliminate emotions, the workshop focuses on creating a “moment of choice”: recognising what is happening, pausing and choosing a more useful response.

What the workshop covers:

  • Understanding how genes, environment and experience can influence emotional responses
  • Exploring how emotions affect our thoughts, behaviour, communication and relationships at work
  • Recognising individual emotional triggers and patterns
  • Understanding the fight-or-flight response and what happens when we perceive a threat
  • Using somatic (body feeling) awareness to recognise the physical signs of an emotional response
  • Exploring email and screen apnoea (breath holding) and the impact of digital communication
  • Identifying what we can and cannot control during difficult situations
  • Recognising negative automatic thoughts, catastrophising, black-and-white thinking and mind reading
  • Using cognitive reframing to challenge unhelpful interpretations and consider alternative perspectives
  • Exploring acceptance and commitment when circumstances cannot immediately be changed
  • Using movement, talking, visualisation, language and present-moment awareness to help change emotional states
  • Developing greater awareness of the “moment of choice” between emotion and response
  • Improving active listening during emotionally charged conversations
  • Responding more effectively when someone else is angry, frustrated, sad or upset
  • Using curiosity, empathy and reflective language instead of immediately judging, reacting or trying to fix the situation
  • Practising strategies that can be applied immediately in everyday working life

An interactive workshop.

Participants are encouraged to apply the learning to themselves through insightful individual reflection, group discussion, practical exercises and real workplace scenarios. They will explore questions such as:

  • What triggers me?
  • What happens in my body before I react?
  • What am I assuming about this situation?
  • Is my current response helping me achieve the outcome I want?
  • What can I control and what do I need to let go of?
  • Am I actually listening to the other person, or simply waiting to respond?
  • What could I do differently in my next emotional moment?

What participants take away

Participants leave with greater awareness of their own emotional patterns and a practical toolkit they can use when emotions run high.

Most importantly, they identify their own “moment of choice” and create an intention for how they want to respond differently in the future.

Suitable for everyone in the workplace

This workshop is designed for employees at all levels and can be delivered to teams, groups or individuals. It is particularly valuable for organisations wanting to strengthen self-awareness, communication, collaboration, workplace relationships and the ability to navigate difficult or emotionally charged situations more effectively.
